About Me
My name is Steve Langton, and I took up painting acrylics onto canvas 3 years ago..... Art had been dabbled in at High School, and enjoyed it but became frustrated that I couldn’t produce what my mind saw! My attentions turned 180 degrees away from the nuances of Art to the “black and white” logic of finance, accountancy and business! And for the 25 years my creative side was channelled through house renovations and garden creation!
I paint what I feel, not what I see! “Abstract” art they call it..... I call it “Feeling” art. The swirls can be the thoughts going around in your head! They can be the forces of nature, or the weather patterns! They are what they were to me at the time! The shadings can represent the parts of life that are the same but different! What can be clear today can be blurred tomorrow!
The “ Hummingbird”, is the persona I paint under.... hence all my paintings are signed HB and the year it was painted in. I needed another identity to paint under, as Steve Langton the business person, I couldn’t separate the logic numbers based life I was immersed in. Becoming another identity allowed me the freedom to paint what I felt, even if it didn’t conform.
What I feel at the beginning of the journey, very rarely is what I’m feeling at the conclusion.
I wish to thank the person who encouraged me to let go and allow my creativity to flow, and convinced me that it doesn’t matter what other people think of what you are creating, as it is never about the audience but the performer on stage.
Many people paint what has happened in their past, drawing on their experiences to come up with truly wonderful pieces of Art. I will never paint the past, but believe we can paint the future. Become the masters of our own destiny through brush strokes.
